| George at the entrance to the Mohnesee Dam |
The Mohnesee Dam is probably most famous for its role in World War Two when the Allied forces used their innovative 'bouncing bomb' to destroy it, flooding the villages in the valley below and ruining one of the German sources of electricity. It is still possible to see where the repairs were made after the assault.

| Can you see the dark bit in the middle where the dam was damaged? |
It was fun to walk across the dam. There were a lot of people there and
most of them seemed to be English. It was hard to fight the urge to
pretend to be an airplane, whilst singing the theme tune to the
Dambusters!
Our next stop was Trier. We had a fair distance to drive to get there but George ate up the miles and managed not to upset anyone on the Autobahn. We had him up to about 80mph, which we felt was respectable.
We eventually reached Trier in time for tea. We had a bit of a wander around the town centre. Trier is a wonderful Roman town, with a lot of fascinating ancient buildings. It is close to my heart as I lived there for a year when I was studying for my degree. Here are a couple of the roman buildings.
